GODSPEED! SCOTT VINCENT JOHNSON (1959-2012)

The former Maico rider was the CMC Number One 500cc rider in 1980

Scott Johnson was 53.

Many SoCal racers will remember Maico rider Scott Johnson. Scott was CMC number one in 1980 in the 500 class and was AMA National number 93. Scott raced the AMA 500 Nationals from 1981 to 1985. His highest finish was a ninth at the 1981 Carlsbad 500 National, but he made the top 20 at AMA Nationals seven times and qualified for the main event at the 1982 Houston Astrodome Supercross. After retiring, Scott followed his father into the Johnson & Sons Trees company and became a certified arborist (eventually taking over his father's business, Bay Cities Tree Preservation).

Scott fought a long battle with cancer and went into remission for several years, but succumbed to the illness last week. He was laid for rest on Friday, November 2, in his home town of Pacific Palisades, California. He is survived his wife, Tracy, and their nine-year-old son, Ryan and siblings Mike, Chris and Brad and Michelle.
