American riders
interested in entering the United States Grand Prix at Glen Helen on May 29-30 have
been given a reprieve on the entry deadline. AMA Pro riders now have
until Monday, May 24, to send in their entry blanks. Originally, there was
some confusion about the entry process (which we are guessing was at
the AMA's end—since they are the FIM affliliate and are responsible for
processing American rider entries). The AMA was unfamiliar with the entry requirements, because their hasn't been a USGP in 11 years, and because of the late announcement of the race. To make matters better, the AMA, Youthstream and the FIM have extended the deadline for American
entries by one extra week.
It should be noted that AMA Pro riders do not have to contact Youthstream
or the
FIM. AMA Pro riders only have to contact the AMA. Their AMA/SX licenses
are already FIM licenses. There is also no entry fee for American riders
(a
major sponsor is rumored to be paying the entry fees for all the
American riders). Thus,
AMA Pro riders do not need to buy an FIM license or pay an entry fee.
But, they do have to contact the AMA at http://home.ama-cycle.org/raceresults/typeindex.asp?s=90&year=2010
...or call (614) 856-1920 and contact Jane Caston at the AMA. Jane is
the person responsible for making the entry process as smooth as
possible for Americans.
