ASK THE MXPERTS:

What Do The High-End Helmets Weigh? Arai, Shoei And Troy Lee

Dear MXA,
How much does helmet weight vary from brand to brand? I’m interested in a high-quality helmet, but would like to get the lightest one possible. How much do the Arai VX-Pro3, Shoei VFX-W and Troy Lee SE2 helmets weigh?

The weight of a helmet varies with its size and graphics package. A plaIn white helmet can weigh several ounces less than a helmet with graphics. MXA trotted down to the local cycle emporium and weighed several helmets (mediums). The Shoei VFX-W was three pounds, four ounces. The Aria VX-Pro 3 was three pounds, four ounces. The Troy Lee SE2 was three pounds, four ounces. Thus if weight is a major consideration...go white.
