ASK THE MXPERTS: In Search Of The Mystic & Hard To Find Fuel Screw; Where is It?

ASK THE MXPERTS:

IN SEARCH OF THE MYSTIC AND HARD TO FIND FUEL SCREW

Dear MXA,
Every time I have a jetting problem at the track, people tell me to adjust the fuel screw on my 2006 KX250F. I can't find it. I know that it is there, but where? Am I the only one?

No. Most inexperienced riders have trouble finding the elusive fuel screw and on the KX250F it is extremely hard to get to. On a KX250F it is possible to loosen the carb and spin it towards you to gain access to the fuel screw (this is not possible on all brands). Fuel screws are always located under the float bowl on the front half of the carb. The KX250F screw is recessed in a small orifice and can be adjusted with a tiny screwdriver. Turn it in for lean and out for rich.

If you install an adjustable fuel screw, it will be easier to reach, but must be checked constantly to keep it from spinning loose. A better solution is a R&D Racing Flex-Jet. It is a carb-mounted kit that makes the fuel screw accessible just like the idle adjuster. You can order it at www.r1dean.com
