ASK THE MXPERTS: OXYGENATED FUEL?

I Need Better Fuel, Can I Mix Oxygenated Fuel With Pump Gas?

Dear MXA,
I was wondering if you guys have ever tried to mix oxygenated fuel with pump gas. Would this work at a 50/50 mixture or some other combination?

Yes, it works. Since most oxygenated fuel is not super high-octane it works well in stock four-stroke engines. And by mixing it 50/50 with pump gas you increase the oxygen content enough to see a boost in power—without having any jetting issues. We used to do this with C12 and pump gas to make our CR250 two-strokes run. It is the poor man’s version of race gas. On four-strokes, we do it when we go to high elevation tracks to compensate. It hard to say how much horsepower it is worth (because of the variance in pump gas and mixture ratios), but 100 percent oxygenated gas can add as much a three horsepower to a 450.
