ASK THE MXPERTS: WHY DOES MXA ALWAYS SAY TO PUT IN STIFFER FORK SPRINGS? DO YOU KNOW MORE THAN THE FACTORY?

Dear MXA,
Many times you tell riders to put stiffer fork springs and lower the oil level to make to forks work better. Isn't this an old school fix for suspension?

Yes, it is an old school fix, but it is one that works with most modern motocross bikes. Why does it work? Because the base settings for most stock forks are compromises for trail riding, play riding and motocross (built for a rider of average weight and height).

Stock forks are almost always too soft on spring rate and too stiff on damping. The manufacturers choose a soft spring so that the fork will work for slow and small riders and they pumped up the damping so that it will hold up a heavier and faster rider. It is a recipe designed to make no one happy. Our stiff spring and low oil height fix solves the problem at the minimum cost.
