ASK THE MXPERTS: WHAT WERE ZACH OSBORNE'S RESULTS BEFORE HE MOVED TO ENGLAND?
Dear MXA,
I never heard of Zach Osborne before he came to the GP series and won the first moto of the Grand Prix of Ireland in 2008. I live in London. What were Zach Osborne's results before he moved to England?
They were not good. Zach, the son of drag racer Mark Osborne, has suffered with injuries, poor performances and a lack of fitness for most of his AMA career.
In the 2006 AMA 250 Nationals Zach scored 39-39, 32-32, 39-20,18-33 and 25-22 moto scores. The bad placings were broken by up a sixth in one moto at Hangtown.
In 2006, Zach was 28th in the 250 East Supercross series (his best finish was a 14th).
THE 2007 SEASON
In 2007, Osborne finished 29th overall in the 250F AMA National Championship. His best two races in the 2007 Nationals were 16th at Steel City (with a 21-15 day); Zach matched that 16th two weeks late at Glen Helen with a 17-14, but of the 12 National motos he rode in 2007, he was out of the top 20 in eight of those motos.
In the 2007 Supercross series, Zach was 17th in the 250 East. He had a 7th, 9th, 18th, 14th and 12th.
THE 2008 SEASON
In the 2008 250 West Supercross series Osborne had a 22nd, 13th, 21st and 15th for the Yamaha of Troy team.
In the 2008 AMA 250 National series Zach only made it through the opening round at Glen Helen...and not really. His 33-40 day was the end of his AMA season because of injury. In the 2008 250 AMA National standings, Osborne was 98th.
Moving to Europe was a fresh start for the young Osborne. He has found a place to race where he can get good sponsorship. Hopefully, he will do well enough to attract the attention of a American team (and get to come home).
