COLOGNE DEBUT: HONDA’S ALL-NEW CRF450 DAKAR MODEL

Honda builds an all-new rally bike and hires a powerhouse team to ace it in January's big race
  

At the 2012 International Motorcycle Show in Cologne, Germany Honda unveiled its newest offroad race effort – the Honda CRF450 Dakar. Honda will compete in the 2013 Dakar Rally to be held next January. Honda has won the Paris-Dakar fives times, although their last overall win was back in 1989.



Based on CRF450X enduro model, the bike has already undergone testing in Japan and will be ridden in its first race at the Morocco Rally 2012 starting on October 14. The five riders set to compete in the Dakar Rally will ride the Morocco Rally to gather data, identify problems and pinpoint any operational issues.

The CRF450 Dakar will be ridden in the Dakar Rally by Johnny Campbell, Helder Rodrigues, Felipe Zanol, Sam Sunderland and Javier Pizzolito.
