DREAM JOBS: HOW TO MAKE A LIVING DOING WHAT YOU LOVE

Travis Murphy: Kawasaki R&D test rider

TRAVIS MURPHY
KAWASAKI R&D TEST RIDER

STARTING POINT: “I raced some AMA Nationals, but never really had any good results. I tried the Four-Stroke and Canadian Nationals and did well—it was a lot more fun racing when my results were good. I got the inside scoop about this job from Ross Maeda at Enzo. I flew down to Kawasaki for a face-to-face interview and got the job.”

THE JOB: “My job responsibilities consist of riding and testing MX, ATV, UTV and RUV vehicles. I have to be able to effectively critique and analyze every aspect—engine, suspension, handling, etc.—to ensure the products meet the target set by Kawasaki. But it’s not all fun and games. After each testing session, there are a lot of reports that need to be completed and turned in. To see a project go from a drawing to a clay model, and then riding it and testing it through to production is a really cool thing.”
