GODSPEED! BRANT RUSSELL

The father of the Wapid Wire Winder was the consumate professional during his years at HPS, Yoshimura and Acron-Woods
Motocross Action was saddened to hear of the passing of our longtime friend Brant Russell. Most people in the motorcycle industry will remember Brant as the Vice President of Marketing for Yoshimura for many years.

Recently, Brant had moved to the public relations firm of Acorn-Wood (which handles many motorcycle industry accounts, including Jardine, Glen Helen Raceway, Hinson, Racemasters, Dubya and Bomb Squad).

Brant Russell died Saturday, June 4, at Catalina Island, where he and his friend Owen Provence had sailed his Beneteau 42cc sailboat for the weekend. Brant reportedly rowed his dinghy ashore on Saturday morning to get coffee and succumbed to a undiagnosed heart issue on the way back to his boat. Russell's dinghy drifted into another boat, which just happened to belong to a doctor, who performed CPR, but could not revive Brant.

The MXA crew has been friends with Brant for over 35 years (back to his Saddleback days). Brant originally owned HPS, which produced fork cross-over bleeders and the famous Wapid Wire Winder. Brant sold HPS to Wheelsmith’s Gary Richter in the late ’80s before moving to Yoshimura.

We will miss you Brant.

The Wapid Wire Winder is still available from Progressive Suspension. It is an inexpensive alternative to safety wire pliers.
