The American Motorcyclist Association announced that Larry Little. Little, founder of this year’s American International Motorcycle Expo (AIME), had been named by the AMA Board of Directors as their man of the year.
Little, who has worked in the motorcycle industry for years, sought to bring the European motorcycle show format to America. In direct competition with the Indianapolis Dealer Expo, Little moved his AIME motorcycle show to Orlando, changed the date from February to October and split the show into separate days for the industry, media and consumers.
YAMAHA SHOWS ITS ELECTRIC "EKIDS" CONCEPT BIKE AT NEW YORK MOTORCYCLE SHOW
Yamaha has flown its EKIDS electric concept bike from the Tokyo Motorcycle Show to this weekend’s IMS show in the Jacob Javits Center in New York. The EKIDS is a bike designed to allow young kids to learn how to ride without the noise or fuel needs of an internal combustion engine. Think of it as a Yamaha PW50 with an electric engine—that allows it to be ridden in backyards and open areas open areas without drawing complaints. The EKIDS uses a modularized Evino Scooter electric power unit. And unlike a gasoline-powered engine, this motorcycle can be transported in the back seat of a car or mini van. Plus it can be ridden indoors. Although not announced as a production bike—the EKIDS has potential.

KTM IS THE FASTEST GROWING MOTORCYCLE COMPANY: SALES ARE UP 28 PERCENT IN 2013
Erich Trunkenpolz would be proud.
KTM's November unit sales rose 49% compared to the same month in 2012 and year-to-date numbers at the end of November showed KTM with a 28.8% increase in sales. This sales growth makes KTM the fastest growing motorcycle company in the US for 2013. KTM’s success has been product driven. While the other manufacturers have waited out their four-year R&D cycles, KTM has produced something new for every model year. The offroad motorcycle segment makes up the bulk of KTM’s sales, but they have also expanded into street bikes and are soon expect to enter the scooter market as well.

HONDA RELEASES $600 FOUR-STROKE MOTORCYCLE...WITH A CATCH
Ugly, old-fashioned and affordable.
The new Honda CG110 isn’t a motocross bike, but it is the least expensive Honda four-stroke sold—even though it will only be sold in Africa. Built at Honda’s Nigeria factory, it should retail for around $600. Honda plans to sell 40,000 units of CG110 annually. And, it will not be coming to the USA.

HEADS-UP DISPLAYS ARE COMING TO MOTORCYCLING
Nuviz is a joint venture between aerospace contractors Holoeye and APX. By bringing together their core specialties in innovative display technologies, Nuviz is now developing the world’s first see-through Heads-Up Display (HUD) for motorcycle helmets. Although not a motocross product the Nuviz screen attaches to the chin bar of any helmet and syncs with a smartphone. The transparent display screen is in the lower right corner of the rider’s field of view. The rider looks through a Liquid-Crystal-on-Silicon display to see dashboard readings as well as onboard navigation, telemetry and weather. For more info go to www.ridenuviz.com
USED IT, ABUSED IT, TESTED IT: ZOX RUSH C HELMET
The quality of low-cost helmets has taken a quantum leap upwards—a few years ago it was unheard of for an under-$200 helmet to pass the stringent Snell Foundation standards. The Zox Rush C series helmet has an under-$200 price tag ($169.99) and still meets both Snell 2010 and DOT standards. The inner liner and cheek pads are removable and machine washable. The padding of the cheek pads is on the soft side and most MXA test riders wished that the foam padding was a little firmer to help position the helmet more securely. We used the optional thicker cheek pads to tighten the fit.
VERDICT: For an under-$200 helmet the fit was very comfortable. There were no pressure points and it didn't pull your ears off when removing the helmet. We were shocked that we could feel air flowing through this helmet. The Zox Rush C is a good helmet at an excellent price point. The Snell 2010 certification is a big plus. At this price it is a viable low-cost alternative—$169.99 at www.zoxhelmets.com or your local dealer.
GODSPEED! DANNY “BERZERKO” BECKER (1955-2013)
Danny “Berzerko” Becker, wild riding Costa Mesa Speedway racer from the 1970s, passed away at his Huntington Beach home recently. Becker, 58, had been battling cancer for several years. Although not a motocross racer, Becker was the favorite of many of the motocross stars of the 1970s, who would come to Costa Mesa fairgrounds to see Danny ride. And watching Danny at speed was a thrill ride.
Becker is survived by his wife, Jojo Guerin Becker; his daughters Selina and Michaela; sisters Robin, Karen and Kim; and his father, John Becker.

ALL-TIME SUPERCROSS WINS: WHO CAN CATCH WHOM?
Jeremy McGrath’s record of 72 wins makes him untouchable for the foreseeable future.
Who can catch whom? We know one thing for sure, Ricky Carmichael, Ricky Johnson, Bob Hannah, Jeff Ward, Damon Bradshaw and Kevin Windham can’t catch anybody because they aren’t racing anymore. But there are a few interesting match-ups still left on the all-time list—since four of the top ten are still active.
James Stewart is only three wins behind Ricky Carmichael’s second place in the standings. Chad Reed is only four behind Bubba and Ryan Villopoto is only 7 behind Reed. With a 17-race series coming up, it is possible that when the dust settles Ricky Carmichael will have slipped down the leaderboard at least one place. Ryan Villopoto would have to win 14 races to move into second—tough to do, but not out of the realm of possibility. Chad Reed would need 7 wins to match RC and 8 to pass him. James Stewart only needs four wins to take outright command of second place. As for McGrath — he is 24 wins ahead of his closest competitor.
ALL-TIME SUPERCROSS WIN LIST
1. Jeremy McGrath.......72
2. Ricky Carmichael.....48
3. James Stewart.........45
4. Chad Reed...............41
5. Ryan Villopoto..........34
6. Ricky Johnson.........28
7. Bob Hannah.............27
8. Jeff Ward..................20

10. Kevin Windham.....18
THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS SPORT (CIRCA 1955)
THE 2014 TM MOTORCYCLES RACING EFFORT
Davide Guarneri and Tanel Leok have signed on to race TM’s in the 2014 FIM 450 World Championships, while in Daniel McCoy will race 2014 Australian motocross and Supercross seasons on the Italian steed.
McCoy said, “I have chosen to race the TM MX250 two-stroke for the MX Nationals in the 250 class for next year. There is no doubt that the TM 250 two-stroke is a great bike and combined with the fact that I have always felt at home on a two-stroke I think it will be a perfect fit for 2014.”
