CATCHING UP WITH DR. BUD ON THIS CIRCUMNAVIGATION OF AUSTRALIA
The last time we heard from Grand Prix, X-Fighters, WORCS, AMA National and Glen Helen promoter Dr. Bud Feldkamp he was halfway around Australis on his 31-day adventure with son Buddy. Today we got an email from Dr. Bud.
“Well, it has been a few days since we have had a chance to send an update. Since leaving Darwin, we have been in the real outback where email was not possible. These past four days have been quite and adventure. We have experienced a large lightning storm which started brush fires only feet from the highway, we have had to bum gas from a dirt bike, weedeater, and leaf blower (thanks to the Easter holiday closing many roadhouses and gas stations). But through all of the adversity, we have covered a lot of miles (we have averaged about 750 miles a day) and created a lot of memories. Enjoy the photos!”

GOLDENTYRE COMES TO AMERICA
Goldentrye has opened the Goldentyre USA offices. Led by former Women World, USA, and Italian motocross champion Stefy Bau, Goldentyre USA office aims to help establish the brand in all different disciplines in the US market.
Stefy Bau said, "I believe that Goldentyre has all the potential to be successful in the US. It's a vibrant brand and it listens to the riders demand, but what's important is that they can come up with the product desired in a considerable limited amount of time. In my opinion, this is what's going to make the difference here. With a demanding and constantly evolving market, I feel Goldentyre has the magic formula to establish and adapt itself in the ever competitive US territory."
Marco Cavallini, owner of Goldentyre, said: “From the beginning, our ultimate target market has been the US as it being an important step for our overall growth. We feel we are now ready to introduce to the US our world-wide recognized products. We understand a presence in the US can be challenging, but that same challenge is what motivates us to continue creating better products. We will do everything possible to satisfy the US market and demand.”

KTM SALES REACH 80,000 UNITS & BAJAJ RAISES STAKE IN KTM TO 47%
Bajaj, India's second-largest motorcycle manufacturer, has bought another 6.3% of KTM, according to the Economic Times. That gives Baja a little over 47% of KTM stock. It was an open market transaction, which means that Bajaj bought the shares from the key stake holders.
KTM president Stefan Pierer and Rudolf Knuenz hold more than a 51% stake in the company. Rajiv Bajaj said, “We do not want to be the majority stakeholder as to convey the perception of exclusivity and premiumness." Even as the market for motorcycles in Europe and USA shrank by 5%, KTM successfully managed to increase sales by 13.4%. In 2011 KTM produced 81,200 bikes. Bajaj made 11,000 out of 81,000 bikes that KTM sold in 2011. During the first two months of 2012, KTM edged past BMW as the largest selling brand in Europe
MXA MINI-VIEW: STEVEN FROSSARD IS READY FOR MONDAY'S GRAND PRIX OF HOLLAND
Steven Frossard heads to Valkenswaard as one of three challengers with a chance of cracking Antonio Cairoli’s dominance in the 450 World Championships.
The 24-year-old Frenchman is starting his second year as a 450 GP rider for the Monster Energy Yamaha team. Here Frossard chats about his pre-season build-up to the Easter Monday Grand Prix at the Valkenswaard track, near Eindhoven, Holland.
Did you make any changes to your program over the winter?
Steven: Nothing major. I’m working again with Willy Linden and I follow his training plan. I’m really happy to work with him. Last year my shape was not bad at all so there are no variations to the program. I think this year my level is a bit higher.
What did you change on your Yamaha YZ450F for this year?
(Laughs) When this question first came up from the team I joked ‘an electric starter’! I think my goal was to get the Yamaha to be even easier to race in terms of the power delivery. The guys came up with some adjustments that made the YZ450F feel even better than last year. I was very pleased with how that happened. It was in the corners mainly. The bike could feel aggressive and was too strong for me, so now it is perfect and feels even more agile. We also worked with GET on the electronics over the last month and their GPA system it is pretty complicated, but the system helps me with my riding. I feel more traction and it provides confidence.
The team switched to Akrapovic this year, how do the new pipes feel?
During the first tests it didn’t feel that different but then they produced another pipe for me and now I really notice it. The team have worked to prepare a bike that is a very good all-rounder: at the start, corners, across whatever ground and we’ve done well with that job. I think I have a good bike for Grand Prix and if anything we will only need little mods from now on.
The first Grand Prix will be in the sand…do you like sand tracks?
I like the sand now and I feel much better across this type of ground compared to even last year. It is something I have been working on and I think with the better feeling I have on the bike I will be able to show it. Valkenswaard is not like Lommel though. It can be very hard in places and is a bit weird. The next two races will be on hard-pack but it is not an issue for me the change in terrain.
Last year was your first year in the 450 class. Now, they say you are a title contender. How does that feel?
It is not a problem. I ride for fun and prefer to stay focused race by race. This is one of the things I learned from my first year in MX1. At the beginning of the season I was just looking at the next GP on the calendar and then towards the last few I was looking more at the points. And was making more mistakes. What I have to do for 2012 is focus at the actual races themselves because sometimes I was too hungry for the top step. I wouldn’t start so well and would see Cairoli in front and would push too much and be too aggressive, leading to mistakes. I need to be a bit cooler.
Was that your big lesson from your rookie season?
Yes. I looked at Cairoli and he was very cool at times and knew when the odds were against him and that fifth or sixth was the best he could do that day. Desalle was also like this.
At the end of the season, after the Motocross des Nations, there is the motocross/supercross hybrid Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas. Would you go to that race?
Yeah! If I am healthy and don’t have any problems then I will go for sure. It will be fun and I’d like to try a race like this.

MOTOGP RACER DANI PEDROSA CHEATS...NOT ON HIS BIKE, BUT ON HIS BOAT
Dani Pedrosa–sailing on calmer waters.
In one of the stranger stories from this week’s motorcycle world–Honda Repsol road racer Dani Pedrosa was arrested in Spain recently for cheating on his Yachtsman Exam (a test you have to take before you can operate a boat in Spanish waters). Pedrosa, who confessed, was among a group of 21 people taking the test who were either using ear pieces or having someone else take the test in their name. Pedrosa’s apology, after his arrest, stated, "You can either ignore or learn from mistakes and I have learned from this one. I would like to publicly apologize to my followers and all those who have shown faith in me." Pedrosa's first MotoGP is this weekend in Qatar. Honda’s position is that Pedrosa’s arrest is a "a personal issue."
