Question of the Day:

Dear MXA,

I'm thinking of running a multi-prong spark plug in my YZ250F. Is there any advantage to them? Or it is just hype?

It's not hype, but it's also not worth doing. Multi-prong spark plugs do offer some longevity benefits because metal erosion is spread over the extra electrodes, but we don't think its worth the effort. In our opinion, the greater number of electrodes masks the flame kernel's access to the main body of the air/fuel mixture. We think that the best combustion comes from a spark plug with the greatest volume of fuel surrounding the brightest flame kernel. That does not come from multi-prong plugs.
