LOST has had its highs and lows (Paulo and Nikki), but they've done a good job at keeping up with the story ovrlael. Certainly, nothing is going to grip us as greatly as the first season because the whole scenario was new to us.In response to the above comment:1) Yes, Jack mentioned his father. He's drugged up, but more importantly, he's had hallucinations of his father appearing to him before his drugged-down spiral.2) They've demonstrated early on Michael's keen focus on doing anything to save Walt, even at the cost of betraying his friends on the Island. The only thing they haven't done (so far) is do more with Walt's specialness . They delved into it but haven't done much since Walt left. They need to go into this more.3) Haven't you noticed that other people have attempted to get away from the Island by sea and always seem to return there? Also, the fact that they took the boat Desmond was sailing implies there was a great distance before the other Island could be discovered one that had not previously been traversed by the shipwrecked passengers.4) Jack has been obsessed with leaving the Island from Day 1. More to do with his need to fix things than anything else. When he's with the Others, his need to escape the Island has become so great that he (temporarily) puts back his desire to get the other passengers off as well since that's out of his domain at this time. I don't doubt that his character would have attempted to get back to them (or send help), much as his character in the flash forwards is trying. Yes, they've returned him to the head position but that's the fault of the writers for having favoritism for Jack as the hero . Like many viewers, I side with the passengers, but I find Jack's self-righteousness distasteful. He's completely intolerant of anything or anyone that doesn't agree with him. He has a hard time believing anything other than simple, concrete facts. That's why he and Locke butt heads so often. Certainly, Locke has had his share of issues and mistakes, but I find Locke significantly more appealing as a heroic character than Jack. If Jack would realize it's not his way or the highway. 5) Locke not being able to kill his father is very different than killing a character he believed to be a threat. Although he knew what a horrible man his father was, there was always that longing and desire that somehow he could be reconciled with his father and obtain that father/son relationship he desired.6) Charlie was finally convinced it was his time to die. He had escaped it numerous times and believed it was the only way Claire was going to make it off the Island. He believed his death was part of making that happen. He was preventing Desmond from coming into the room. Desmond would surely not have left the room if he thought there was any chance to communicate with Penny. They definitely could have added more detail to clarify these points.
