Here’s a list of things that stand out with the Noleen J6 Ride Height tool.
(1) Folding.
One of the inherent problems with the first generation of sag scales was that they were basically long metal rulers and were hard to carry to the races. Noleen J6 solved that problem by making their scale collapsible so that it can be folded and put in a standard toolbox. When folded, the Noleen J6 Ride Height tool is 17 inches long and extends to 28 inches.
(2) Laser etching.
Noleen Ride Height tools are available in a wide array of anodized colors (black, red, blue, gold and green), and the measuring scale is laser-etched into the tool. The etched scale cannot be scratched off or removed. The incremental measurements go from 0mm to 130mm. Thanks to two slotted adjustment grooves, the Noleen sag scale can be used on everything from a 450cc four-stroke to a 65cc minicycle.
(3) Function.
The most commonly used tool of the MXA wrecking crew is the Noleen folding sag scale. Since the MXA wrecking crew races seven bikes every weekend, with the test riders rotating from bike to bike, we have to set the race sag as many as 14 times a day. To make this as painless as possible, we rely on sag scales to ensure that each rider gets his suspension set up properly.
WHAT’S THE SQUAWK?
Our only complaint is that four-out-of-five modern motocross bikes come with large axle holes and the sag scale comes with a much smaller plug. We put rubber tubing on the plug to upsize it.
We can’t live without a sag scale—especially one that fits inside our toolbox.
