MXA PRODUCT TEST:
DRC AIR VALVE STEM PULLER
WHAT IS IT? The most irritating part of changing a tire is fishing the valve stem through the rim. It is hard to do and tough on your fingers. The DRC valve stem puller is a handy little tool for getting the valve stem through the rim with no hassles.
WHAT’S IT COST? $8.95.
WHAT STANDS OUT? Here’s a list of things that stand out with the DRC valve stem puller.
(1) Dual purpose. It can be used as a valve core remover and a valve stem puller.
(2) Function. It is easy to use. Before installing the valve stem portion of the tube into the tire, thread the DRC stem puller through the rim’s valve stem hole and into the tube’s valve core. Voila! Now all you have to do is pull the handle to guide the valve stem through the hole in the rim.
(3) Tips. Putting cornstarch on the tube before installation makes it easier to align the valve stem later. Cornstarch works like talcum powder but won’t ball up with moisture.
(4) Durability. We change more tires than the average racer. Our first DRC air valve stem puller had some wires fray from use, and after two years we had to replace it.
WHAT’S THE SQUAWK? When using it as a valve core remover, it is difficult to grip the polished head. It needs knurling for traction.
This simple little tool is worth its weight in gold when it comes time to go valve stem fishing.
