It is not mandatory that a nation send a team to the MXDN–but when it doesn’t there is more than a little hand wringing about that nation’s status, organizations and officials. It’s no secret that Canada is a divided motocross country with the CMA and CMRC at odds with each other over control of the sport...or at the very least control of their fiefdoms. Canada has great riders who could represent their citizens with strong performances–but it isn’t going to happen in 2012.
Word out of the Great White North is that they will not be sending a team to the 2012 Motocross des Nations in Lommel, Belgium, on September 30. According to Team Canada MX “plans where well underway for a team to represent Canada at this year’s event. Canada’s latest star, Cole Thompson had agreed to move to the MX2 class due to the unavailability of top two MX2 riders for the event. Colton Facciotti and Dusty Klatt, two of our top pics for MX1 and MX3 where not available as well. Sand specialists Tyler Medaglia and Kyle Keast where both available and anxious to participate. Unfortunately, leg injuries have downed both riders and although the felt they might be ready it doesn’t seem as if they will be in top form. It wouldn’t be fair to Cole or Canada, to send what would be perceived as C-team backups so, unfortunately, we will have to sit this year out.”
