HE BELONGS TO THE AGES (KURT CASELLI MEMORIAL VIDEO)
WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT LIFE FROM KURT CASELLI
By Daryl Ecklund
"You should do at least one thing every day that scares you." – Kurt Caselli
This is a quote that my dear friend Kurt lived by. I didn’t think a whole lot about it until after Kurt’s passing. I have never had someone close to me taken away, so this is a new experience that I know I will learn and grow from. Being so close with Kurt for so many years I was lucky enough to learn from the champ. He gave me advice on a daily basis on what I should work on or how I should live my life to accomplish my goals.
Honestly, a lot of the time it went in one ear and out the other. To me he was just “Kurt,” not “Kurt the multi-championship winning rider.” I wish now that I would have looked at him as the legend he was.
Kurt pushed his bike over two miles to cross the finish line. Kurt later admitted that he was scared he was going to pass out.
When he said to do one thing every day that scares you, he did not mean to do something dangerous (well, maybe every once in a while), but rather do something every day that forces you to grow as a person. There were a lot of things that scared him growing up, but I cannot remember a time where he backed down from a challenge or passed on doing whatever it took to accomplish his goals.
Daryl Ecklund (right) was scared to jump Kurt's Rally bike because it was big, imposing and strange, but Kurt (left) talked him through it.
What scares us might be a lot different from what scared Kurt, but every time we overcome a fear we grow. And every time we grow, we move forward as an individual. Some might be scared to talk in front of a crowd. Some might be scared they won’t make it through college. Some might be scared to ask the possible love of their life out on a date. All valid, all real and all fairly common, but if you do not face your fears you will never live the life you want. Looking back at the time Kurt and I spent together, there are so many things that Kurt told me to face that I didn’t want to because I was scared of the outcome. Yes, it does sounds stupid to be scared of something that hasn't even happened yet!
Kurt wasn't scared to rock a mullet at the races.
From this day forward I will opt to face the things that scare me–the things that are blocking the road to the life that I want. What is stopping you from facing your fears?

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS DENNIS STAPLETON?

Although MXA planned to use the break between the World Vet Championship and "Day in the Dirt" to test bikes and round out the finishing touches on our 2014 MXA 250 Shootout, our schedule was disrupted by a freak series of rain storms that caused us to reschedule—so Dennis Stapleton headed to the airport.

Where did he end up? Kuwait for a round of the Arab National Championship. It was a quick trip because, Dennis plans to be back for "Day in the Dirt" this weekend to race with fellow MXA test riders Daryl Ecklund, John Basher and Jody Weisel.

MXA WEEKLY WORKOUT: 60 SECOND FITNESS TIP
TIP: Ever find yourself in the drive-thru line upset because you’re already regretting the unhealthy fast food you are about to eat. Often the rush of time can get the best of you. Maybe you didn’t have the time to make yourself breakfast or lunch that morning. Maybe you forgot to go shopping. Whatever your excuse is for going through the drive-thru here is an easy way to keep healthy food in your belly. Plan ahead and stock up on healthy food. Make a designated shopping day in your weekly routine. Your shopping list should have no cheat food–as those will be the first to be eaten when in the house! Now the final step is to prepare your breakfast and lunch the night before. This is probably the last thing you want to do after you have had a hard day at work, but just think of the way you will be feeling when you leave that drive through again.
FAMOUS SPANISH DJ WINS CATALANA MOTOCROSS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP IN SPAIN
Looking for a little disco-funk?
Xavi (63) gets the fever at the World Vet Championship last month in SoCal.
Ever since the death of Steve McQueen the sport has been looking for a new outside hero to draw attention to motocross. Good news! Last weekend in Spain, famous DJ Xavi “Fever” Costa joined the world of disco-funk revival DJ’ing with motocross by winning the MX4 title in the Catalana Motocross League Championship. In fact “Fever” went straight from a gig at a nightclub in Barcelona to the track in Saloma. Congrats Xavi.
